Pinwheels of Possibility: Celebrating Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is National Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Month, a time when child wellness and welfare organizations across the United States shine a spotlight on the importance of centering families and building communities where children can grow up safe, healthy, and supported.

Healthy Families Jefferson/Lewis & St. Lawrence, along with NCPPC, recognizes that every community member has a role in ensuring children have positive experiences and that families have the resources they need, even before crises arise. This year’s awareness and impact campaign, led by Prevent Child Abuse America and its national network of state chapters, is themed “Pinwheels of Possibility.”

The pinwheel represents how family support should work. Families are at the center, and each spin stands for the programs, services, policies, and everyday kindnesses that help them stay strong.

From home visiting and health care to economic stability and safe housing, every pathway of support helps expand what’s possible for children and families.

In this moment, as families are facing rising costs, heightened stress, and widening gaps in support, we must be clear in our message and actions- when we support families early and often, children are more likely to grow up safe, healthy, and ready to thrive.

We must work toward a mindset shift—from a culture that looks for problems to report to one that offers help, trust, and connection. When families are valued and supported, prevention becomes possible.

Healthy Families Jefferson/Lewis & St. Lawrence and NCPPC invite community members to raise awareness and impact through the following action items this April and beyond:

Pinwheels of Possibility celebrates the limitless potential of children and families when communities, systems, and policies come together to keep families strong before a crisis occurs. Together, we can strengthen families at every turn and ensure every child has the chance to grow up safe, supported, and loved.
