A Sex Education Initiative: A Fellowship through Columbia University
Congratulations to Anne Garno, our Director of Education and Enrollment on her recent acceptance to the fellowship “A Sex Education Initiative: Providing Teacher and Youth Educators with Essential Training, Materials, and Community”. Anne will start her journey virtually on March 15th and will continue the specialized training through April, 30th. This program facilitates training on sex education with a focus on Reproductive Identity Formation. Through the program, Anne will be working on supporting and understanding adolescent development for pregnancy prevention and reproductive life planning.
Anne took a moment to reflect on the upcoming training and answered the following:
- Why did you apply for the fellowship?
- I am always looking for opportunities to increase my knowledge and skills and this fellowship is a great opportunity to engage in professional development with a cadre of health teachers and sexual health educators across the state.
- What are you hoping to gain?
- I am looking forward to accessing materials and resources that will support NCPPC’s mission and specifically our youth services and maternal and infant health programs.
- Why is this topic important to you?
- I believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality, comprehensive, non-biased sexuality education. It allows us to know ourselves and to develop healthy, satisfying relationships with others.
